Meditation
Before there was a pulpit, there was a home. Before Adam had a congregation, God gave him a companion. The word “helper” (Hebrew ezer) is no small word — Scripture uses it most often of God Himself, the Helper of Israel. A wife’s calling, then, is not a lesser calling. It is a strong one.
Consider Timothy. When Paul searched for the source of that young pastor’s sincere faith, he did not point to a seminary. He pointed to a kitchen table: “your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice” (2 Tim 1:5). Two women at home, opening the Scriptures to a child, shaped a man who would shepherd the church at Ephesus. Their ministry was hidden; its fruit was public.
This is the quiet arithmetic of God’s kingdom. The wife who prays for her husband before he preaches has already entered the sermon. The mother who teaches her children the catechism is planting the next generation of the church. The woman who opens her door to the weary practices the hospitality Christ will remember on the last day: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matt 25:35).
The world measures ministry by platforms. God measures it by faithfulness. Much of the church’s strength has always come from ministries no one applauded — prayers offered at midnight, meals set before strangers, truth spoken gently to a discouraged husband, psalms sung over a cradle.
Husband, do not overlook the partner God has fitted to you; her labor upholds yours. Wife, do not despise the hiddenness of your work; the Lord who sees in secret will reward openly (Matt 6:4).

Prayer
Father, thank You for the helpers You have fashioned in Your wisdom. Bless the wives and mothers whose ministry is woven quietly into the life of Your church. Teach us to honor what You honor, and to labor faithfully where You have placed us, until the day every hidden work is brought to light. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
